Planting Assurances -

How and why we Nurseries and Foresters make planting so affordable

Forestry and Hedgerow planting in the UK is declining at an unacceptable rate and we believe the numerous “Green Campaign” planting projects are charging far more than we in the industry find acceptable. So much, that we are redressing the balance in order for more people and businesses to sign up to a comprehensive national planting project by basing ours upon actual planting costs.

With 280 teams assigned to our national localised community tree and hedge plantings, we now extend our planting options through some 567 UK sites, taking in some 15,270 hectares. And with your continued support and sponsorship, time and our on-going phase1 planting program, this will facilitate in excess of 20,000,000 native forestry trees and 2020 miles of new hedgerows planted with 16,000,000 plants. As with any living things, despite all the care and attention to detail when planting and maintaining, there will be inevitably a small percentage of plant failures. So, as we are managing the projects, we will replace any failures within the first three years of planting.

To ensure our “Great British Heritage” is protected, we only plant British provenance trees that are grown from within this alliance under contract by nursery stock company, R & N Plant Specialists. These are in compliance with the Certification of Forest Reproductive Material (Great Britain) regulations 2002 Voluntary Scheme for Native Trees and Shrubs. And with the FERA Plant Health Passport, where necessary which includes annual plant health checks and inspections carried out by FERA. Every forestry tree we plant on your behalf will be registered into the CFOP & Landscape-UK data land bank. This means we will have complete tractability and provenance records in place for any subsequent timber sales that might arise late this century. And all rainforest plantings are mapped with the Helveta’s innovative supply chain technology to record species, measurements and GPS coordinates. This system provides us with complete chain of custody tracking to prove legality and provenance in compliance with international laws such as those defined under the Lacey Act (USA) and Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT – EU).

For your sponsorship participation we will email a verification and personalised certificate detailing the planting location or locations and CFOP Registration numbers. A printed certificate can be posted out for an additional £5 and in addition you will receive our newsletter (optional) and an annual offset update by email.

With so many Carbon offsetting tree planting projects on offer and with such variable pricing structures, it’s hard to establish whose pricing policies are right. As the growers of forestry trees with no third party involvement, we quite simply offer ours based upon commercial forestry practises with costing derived from that of grant aided or government funded woodland and forestry plantings, both here in the UK and in the world’s rainforests.

With the CFOP tropical tree production forestry planting in the rainforests is overseen and regulated by TRRP who carry out stringent checks at our tropical partnerships nurseries and they advise us on where plantings are needed most at this crucial time.
